Hazard Identification (HAZID)

The aim of this course is to assess trainees on the importance of recognizing hazards in the workplace and understanding their role in accident prevention. Learners will be assessed on identifying common hazards, applying hazard recognition techniques, and following proper reporting and control procedures. The course emphasizes the integration of hazard identification within a positive safety culture and Health and Safety Management Systems.

Leading and lagging safety indicators
Hazard identification techniques, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
Steps of Job Safety Analysis: task selection, stage recording, risk evaluation, safe method development, implementation, and monitoring
Five steps to risk assessment:

- Identifying hazards (safety and health hazards: physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, psychological)

- Identifying people at risk (workers, contractors, visitors, public)

- Evaluating risks and deciding on precautions (risk = likelihood × severity)
- Recording significant findings and implementing controls
- Reviewing risk assessments

Participants are required to achieve 100% attendance. Assessment for this course consists of a written post‑test with a minimum passing score of 75%. Participants who achieve a score of at least 75% and demonstrate adequate understanding of hazard identification concepts will receive a certificate.
