H2S Breathing Apparatus (BA)

Delivery: 1 day

Method: Offline with practical

Course Description:

This comprehensive training course is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and practical understanding of Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) and the correct usage of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) in environments where H₂S exposure is a risk.

Learners will learn to identify the properties and dangers of H₂S gas, understand its potential impact on health and safety, and implement appropriate control measures to prevent exposure. The course includes detailed discussions on occupational exposure limits, toxic concentration levels (PPM), the importance of early warning systems, and emergency response procedures.

Hands-on practice with breathing apparatus equipment and first aid procedures will ensure that workers are prepared to respond effectively to H₂S-related incidents, protecting both personnel and property in high-risk work environments.

Target Audiences:

This training is intended for personnel who may be exposed to Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) in the workplace, particularly in high-risk industries such as:

  1. Oil and Gas (Upstream, Midstream, Downstream)

  1. Petrochemical and Refinery Operations

  1. Wastewater Treatment Facilities

  1. Mining and Geothermal Operations

  1. Industrial Cleaning and Maintenance

  1. Emergency Response Teams and HSE Officers

  1. Drilling, Production, and Rig Crew Members

  1. Confined Space Workers

No prior experience with breathing apparatus is required, but learners should be physically capable of donning and operating SCBA equipment during practical exercises.

Learning Objectives:

  1. - Identify what Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) is.

  1. - Identify the characteristics of H₂S and its relative harm on people and property

  1. - Discuss the effects of these properties on the nature of work, whether day to day routine work or work with higher levels of risk to people and/or property

  1. - Discuss the concentrations of harm in correlation with occupational limit values and their concentrations in Parts Per Million (PPM).

  1. - Discuss the side effects of H₂S by indicating the importance of warning signs and signs of threat to life.

  1. - Discuss the control measures to protect workers from H₂S exposure by using the SCBA, Gas Detectors and the usage of ventilation.
